A Fragrance, A Memory
Every time I smell it, I think of her. My mother. The perfume that she wears. For some reason I remember specifically my mom ready to leave for a date with my dad. She was wearing a pretty open weave sweater. It was cream with golden threads woven through it. She also was wearing my favorite necklace, one that my dad bought for her. I thought she was a picture of loveliness. And she smelled like that perfume. She hugged me before she left, and maybe just a little of the perfume stayed on me, because it really impressed me. It was the smell of beauty at that moment. That picture will forever be in my mind.
Just as perfume lingers in a room after someone leaves, as believers we are a sweet fragrance of Christ.
2 Corinthians 2:14-15 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
What do people remember when we leave a room? What aroma of Christ are we leaving behind in people's lives?
I'll never forget the fragrance of my mother's perfume, and I pray that the fragrance of Christ will be unforgettable in the lives of people I'm around.

Do you prepare for Sunday?
My plan for tomorrow |
Being on time on Sunday morning has been a life long struggle for me. Although I wear dresses or skirts 8 times a month not much thought or time has been put into outfits for Sunday. Every Sunday it is the same, flying through my closet trying on a multitude of clothes creating a mess. You get the picture? It seems the outfits I envision in my head don't always look good on my body. This month I am going to try to develop the habit of planning the "perfect" outfit before Sunday morning. To start this habit my dear friend Marie has gone through my skirts and dresses with me and we have gotten rid of all the stuff that doesn't fix. She also has put together some great outfits that I will be sharing with you. This is the outfit I plan to wear tomorrow.
Go pick out your outfit for tomorrow! Then straighten your closet.

Reverent Behavior
What do you think of when you picture an older woman who is reverent in her behavior?

Below is the poem that started the red hat society.
Warning
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.

Compare Titus 2:3-5
Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior,
not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine,
teaching what is good,
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands,
to love their children,
to be sensible,
pure,
workers at home,
kind,
being subject to their own husbands,
so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

Memorize Titus 2:3,4 with me?
Today we will work on the first phrase, "Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior....." We are going to use pictures to remember each thought or word. Let's begin.
Older women likewise
Older women
These are two of my favorite older women. The one in the black is a good friend and cousin to my mom. The other dear lady is my aunt, my mom's sister. We are going to think of their smiling faces to remember "older women".

The older women above are like, wise.
Why do we think of owl's as wise? This one is so wise he has graduated.

Practice
As we endeavor to teach, learn and put into practice godly principles and practices, I am reminded of a quote from UCONN's womens basketball coach, Geno Auriemma. "Don't just practice something until you get it right, but practice it until you can't get it wrong," May we be so diligent in our spiritual lives.

Welcome
Welcome to Peanut Butter in the Pantry. Teaching what is good is our motto from Titus 2. We want to share things we have learned and are learning in our endeavor to become women who bring glory to God, from basic practical things to the more spiritual just as outlined in our theme verses.
Titus 2: 3-5 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
